Yesterday one of our cows gave us a present. It was one she didn't want herself, apparently. Seriously, why wouldn't you want a fuzzy little 36 pound noisemaker. Comes complete with poop dispenser! For one low price and the shipping was FREE!
So today, we have in our kitchen, a small side of beef who happily is trying to nurse from my knee. She started life as a popsicle but Rick found her in time and between him, Vern, and the bathtub, they defrosted her and now she's providing Lacey a sense of direction and purpose.
2011 is the year of the Y which means in the Registered Beef Cattle World, all your calves' names start with Y. So we're going with Yvette which is French for "God Is Merciful." A nice picture of God's mercy at Christmas.
Now, if we can just get Yvette to drink from a bottle and not my knee.

Lessons while fencing
I learned 2 things while fencing yesterday.
1) Even if you are strong enough to snap off a steel post, it's still a good idea to lift with your legs.
2) Tiger balm applied to pulled muscles and covered with 2 layers of clothes, will still give you third degree burns if left in the sun too long.
